If you would like to direct a domain address that you have to some other domain address or subdomain, a good way to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain name being forwarded loses all of its records (A, MX, etc) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain name it is redirected to. In this way, if you use a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be forwarded to the Internet site that you've created, but it'll also be displayed in the Internet browser address bar at all times. Some other possible uses of a CNAME record are to redirect all the visitors from different subdomains to their main domain name, or to use the webmail service of your hosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain simply because such a record created for the main domain address renders it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Cloud Website Hosting

Creating a CNAME record with our Linux cloud website hosting is really simple. Our in-house built Hepsia CP includes a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domain addresses, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted in your account in only a few easy steps. You will find a video tutorial in the same section where you can see the process first-hand. This feature offers you a number of possibilities - if you build a company website on our end, for instance, the workers can use their emails with the company domain, not with the address of our mail server. If you wish to set up a website through a different provider that offers online web design services, you can easily redirect a domain name hosted here and use it for the website. Last, but not least, in case you have an online store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you may create a CNAME record for the www subdomain and forward it to the main domain name, so all your visitors are going to be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you have a semi-dedicated server through our company and you want to set up a CNAME record, it requires just a couple of clicks to complete this task. The plans are handled via our in-house built Hepsia hosting Control Panel in which you will discover a section committed to the DNS records of the domain addresses and subdomains hosted inside the account. To set up a CNAME record, you'll only have to pick the record type and the hostname (domain or subdomain), input where the latter will be forwarded to and save the change. The new record is going to be active almost immediately in our system and will propagate worldwide within several hours. Modifying or deleting an existing CNAME record within the account is equally simple and easy and takes a click. In the event you experience any problems, you can go through our detailed help article, watch the short video on the subject that we have added in the CP, or just contact us for assistance.
